People assume that since I’m a yoga teacher, I practice yoga daily, or at least a lot. Lately this hasn’t been true. I had my reasons: “There’s a rotator cuff problem in my right shoulder,” or “I’m too sleepy,” or my favorite, “I do kind of do yoga every time I teach.” But these are not reasons, they’re excuses. Any experienced yoga teacher knows that there are helpful modifications for injuries, there’s restorative yoga for fatigue, and you’re not doing yoga when your teaching yoga–you’re helping your students do yoga.
So it was a real come to Jesus moment for me last week when I realized it was time to revitalize my daily yoga practice…at home. I will of course continue taking classes on a weekly basis–this is crucial–but I want to stop whining, and gift myself with what I know I need: daily time, opening the body/mind/spirit on my yoga mat.
To guarantee my success, I’m calling in reinforcements. For anyone who wants to join me, let’s do The Bringing It Home 30-Day Challenge. We start on Monday October 5th. Just a few days ago, I put it in the newsletter for Yoga & Polarity Center (where I serve as the editor); and there was an immediate response. We’re gonna rock our yoga for 30 days. Come be part of this little community of life changers. Maybe you never saw yourself as an Every Day Yogi/Yogini; but even so, it could happen. You could make it happen right now. If you have a yoga mat, and you live somewhere under a roof, you can do this.
Here are the guidelines. For whoever takes the plunge with me, I’ll be available via email for encouragement and guidance throughout. Plus, there’s a Facebook page just for us! Check it out here.
When the 30 days are up, we will have established a routine that can continue nourishing us for years to come. This can be the beginning of a whole new way of life. Caution: It may have far-reaching, unintended, positive consequences.
If you’re IN, (or if you have questions), email me with the subject “I’M IN!” and I’ll send you the contract you’ll print and post somewhere very obvious in your home. Once this is done, email me again and we’ll begin in earnest. It starts now. Yoga every day for 30 days. Let’s DO THIS.
