It was heaven. They walked in the door with sunshine in their eyes. Rosie (6 yrs old) came over from across the street. We played. We ate. I read a story to them (and they acted out the parts). We cleaned up the kitchen together. We played “Memory Italia”. Rosie went home. They brushed their teeth, put on their jammies. I read “The Runaway Bunny” in the way that only I, in the world, can read it. And then I sang my lullaby (written for Luke 33 years ago. Thirty-three. Years.) “Sleepybye Baby My Baby” They went to sleep. And then Elena and I watched the first Harry Potter movie (the Sorcerer’s Stone one).
I couldn’t be happier. Goodnight moon. (Goodnight cow jumping over the moon. Goodnight nobody (remember that page?)…and goodnight to the old lady whispering “Hush.”
